If I sold myself to ppl on dates the way I just sold myself in that job interview I would have a significant other for each day of the week
BTW: I don’t like using the term ‘monosexual privilege’ solely because I don’t think lesbians and gays experience privilege in the same way that straight folks do.
First of all, bisexuals have been using the term ‘monosexism’ since the 1990s, so let’s drop the “bi tumblr just hates lesbians” thing.
To me, monosexism is the notion that a person can only be straight or gay. It’s about structural privilege—but structural privilege does not work the same way for everyone who experiences it, right? Lesbians and gay folks experience it differently than straight folks, because straight folks also experience straight privilege. It’s like how lesbians and gay folks don’t experience homophobia in the same way because they are different genders. Because of heterosexism and heteronormative patriarchy, monosexism exists. Not because of gay folks. Can they feed into it? Yes, absolutely.
Also, to suggest that monosexism is the equivalent of the slur bihet is to be either completely disingenuous or ignorant. Bihet is saying that bi people are straight if they’re in a “straight” relationship. The existence of that word basically proves monosexism’s existence.
